Problems we solve

Ship plans are still built in Excel, checked late and approved over chat

Spreadsheets don’t know the ship’s limits

Stack weights, deck loads in t/m², reefer slots, free heights and minimum GM are only found to be exceeded when the plan reaches the ship’s loading computer.

Stability comes last

Planners stow first and calculate later. One booking change forces a manual recalculation of draft, trim and longitudinal strength.

Restows and multi-port rotations

Domestic rotations call at many ports. A wrong discharge sequence means extra crane moves, longer port stays and cost.

Approvals without a trail

Plans bounce between office, ship and HQ by email and WhatsApp. Which version the master approved is often unclear.

Three engines at the core

Constraints, stability and optimisation — one source of truth

The manual planner, auto stowage and the approval flow all call the same engines. AI only explains results; it never places cargo or calculates stability.

Constraint engine

Deterministic rules with a code, a level (block/warn/info), bilingual messages and a source — identical in the browser, on the server and in tests.

  • Slots, stack weights, deck & hold loads
  • POD sequence, Ro-Ro/LCT discharge order
  • DG from licensed or company rule sets

Stability & strength engine

Computed from your vessel’s hydrostatic and KN tables (interpolated) and tested against the loading conditions in the stability booklet.

  • Draft F/A/M, trim, heel, corrected GM
  • GZ curve & intact stability criteria
  • SF/BM per frame, air draft, line of sight

Auto stowage optimiser

The AUTO PLAN button returns four options, all of them already passed by the same constraint and stability engines.

  • A — fastest port operations
  • B — best stability · C — fewest restows
  • D — balanced (default), weights per company

Modules per vessel type

One core, a cargo-space module for every vessel type

Each module brings its cargo-space definition, rule validator, weight & moment contribution to the stability engine, 2D & 3D views, PDF report and test data.

Modules roll out in stages: barge, LCT & general cargo first, then container, then bulk & Ro-Ro, then MPP, heavy lift & project cargo.

Workflow

From vessel model to an approved final plan

Every step uses one vessel model and the same engines, so manual and automatic plans are checked with the same formulas.

  1. Vessel Builder

Build your vessel: identity, dimensions, hydrostatics & KN from the stability booklet, tanks and cargo spaces.

  2. Voyage

Port rotation per leg, cargo from Excel, API or EDI, VGM and DG normalised.

  3. Planner

Drag & drop into slots or zones; the constraint engine blocks or warns instantly.

  4. Stability

Draft, trim, heel, GM, GZ, criteria and SF/BM per leg from a deterministic engine.

  5. Approval

Planner → Chief Officer → Superintendent → Master, every decision logged.

  6. BAPLIE & PDF

Hashed stowage plan PDF, BAPLIE/MOVINS re-validated before sending.

Safety & validation status

Honest about limits: shore-side planning until class approval

Stability comes from a deterministic engine tested against the vessel’s stability booklet. Until the module is approved by a classification society, all output is shore-side planning & decision support.

Data status of every vessel

  1. Draft

Data just entered. Stability figures show a red “not validated” label.

  2. Internally verified

Checked by your team against the ship’s documents. The warning label stays.

  3. Verified by naval architect

Source documents uploaded and engine results match the booklet conditions within tolerance.

Vessel data not yet validated — do not use for operational decisions.

  • Every vessel is tested with the loading conditions from its stability booklet; the comparison report is stored with the vessel.
  • Engine changes that move results outside tolerance fail the build (automatic regression).
  • Existing plans stay locked to the vessel model version they were created with.
  • PDFs state that the approved onboard loading computer remains the official reference.

Shore-side planning & decision support. The class-approved onboard loading computer remains the official reference.

The path to an official loading instrument (IACS UR L5, Rec. 48) is a separate business decision; the architecture is prepared for it.

Integrations

Data in from anywhere, out in standard formats

Every channel is normalised into one cargo list before the engines use it. Integrations use scoped API keys and an audit log.

API /v1/vessel

Vessels, voyages, idempotent cargo batches, optimisation, stability and BAPLIE export. Webhooks plan.approved, plan.final, stability.alert, vgm.missing.

UN/EDIFACT EDI

BAPLIE 2.x & 3.x, MOVINS, VERMAS, COPRAR/COARRI, TANSTA following SMDG guides; exports are re-validated before sending.

Excel & CSV

Templates per vessel type, automatic column mapping, row validation and error reports.

Manifest extraction

Manifest PDFs or photos become structured items — always confirmed by the user before use.

Integration targets: terminal TOS, ERP, ship management, fleet management, booking systems and port systems. Developers →

Frequently asked questions

Does Stowage.id replace the ship’s loading computer?

No. Until the module is approved by a classification society, Vessel Stowage is a shore-side planning & decision-support tool. The class-approved onboard loading computer and the stability booklet remain the official reference; our plans help you prepare and check earlier.

Which vessel types are supported?

One core for container ships, general cargo/MPP, bulk carriers, barges, LCTs, Ro-Ro, heavy lift and project cargo. Modules roll out in stages: barge, LCT and general cargo first, then container, then bulk, Ro-Ro, MPP, heavy lift and project cargo. Tankers and gas carriers are not supported.

Where does my vessel’s hydrostatic data come from?

From your vessel’s stability booklet: hydrostatic tables, KN/cross curves, tanks and strength limits are imported via Excel/CSV in the Vessel Builder. Our onboarding team can help model the vessel and validate it against the booklet conditions.

Does AI build the plan or calculate stability?

No. Cargo positions come from the planner or the optimiser, and every stability figure comes from a tested deterministic engine. AI only explains results in plain language and helps import data that you must confirm.

Can it be used on board without stable internet?

Yes, for review: offline mode (PWA) lets the chief officer review the plan on board, then sync when back online with conflict detection.

What about dangerous goods (IMDG) data?

The IMDG Code text and tables are IMO copyright, so we don’t copy them. The DG engine reads rule sets from licensed data sources or rule sets you enter yourself, then applies segregation in the plan.

How much does it cost?

There are Free, Ship Planner Pro per user, Barge/LCT per unit (minimum 3), Vessel per ship, Fleet from 10 vessels, and Enterprise plans. Vessel onboarding (modelling & validation) is a one-off fee by vessel type. Full prices are on the pricing page.

Can I try it first?

Yes. Paid plans come with a 14-day trial, and you can start with a demo vessel built on synthetic data. For your own vessel, request a demo and we will help prepare its model.
