About this calculator
UN/LOCODE (United Nations Code for Trade and Transport Locations) is the location code list maintained by UNECE and used on almost every trade document: carrier bookings, bills of lading, manifests, customs declarations and terminal EDI messages. Every code has five characters: the two-letter ISO 3166 country code and a three-character location code. Examples are IDTPP for Tanjung Priok, IDSUB for Surabaya and SGSIN for Singapore.
This tool searches the UN/LOCODE list by name or code. Type at least two letters, such as "priok", "belawan" or "IDBLW", and results appear as you type. Each result shows the code split into country and location, the official name, the subdivision (province or state), coordinates when available, and the location functions from the UN/LOCODE Function column: seaport (1), rail terminal (2), road terminal (3), airport (4), postal exchange (5), multimodal (6), fixed transport such as pipelines (7) and border crossing (B).
The right code matters because one city can have several locations, and a wrong code on a booking or document can route cargo to the wrong terminal or get a document rejected. Switch on seaports only to filter out airports and inland terminals. When a port has a profile page on Stowage.id, the link appears in the result. The data comes from the official UN/LOCODE release and can lag behind recent changes; always match it with the code your carrier uses.
Worked example
Searching "priok" returns IDTPP – Tanjung Priok, Jakarta:
- Code split: country ID, location TPP
- Function 1-3----- → seaport and road terminal
- Coordinates around 6.1° S, 106.88° E
- A function of "12345---" reads seaport, rail, road, airport and postal; "-------B" means a border crossing.
Results without coordinates are still listed, and the port page link only appears when a profile exists.
