Container Yard (CY)

In Indonesian: Container Yard (CY, lapangan penumpukan) Abbreviation: CY

A container yard is the stacking area in a terminal where full and empty containers are stored before loading or after discharge. In FCL shipping the box is handed over and collected at the CY, so CY/CY terms mean the carrier is responsible from the origin yard to the destination yard. Containers left too long in the yard incur terminal storage charges, which are separate from the shipping line's demurrage.

  • Container Freight Station (CFS)

A container freight station is the warehouse where LCL cargo from many shippers is consolidated into one container, or stripped and sorted again at destination.

  • FCL (Full Container Load)

FCL means one shipper books a whole container, however much cargo is inside.

  • Dwelling Time

Dwelling time is how long an import container stays in the terminal, from discharge off the vessel until it leaves the port gate.

  • Reach Stacker

A reach stacker is a wheeled machine with a telescopic boom and spreader for lifting, moving and stacking containers.
