Feeder Vessel
A feeder vessel is a small to mid-sized container ship that moves boxes between hub ports and smaller ports. Many Indonesian export containers leave on a feeder to a regional hub such as Singapore or Port Klang and are then transferred to a mother vessel. Feeders give access to ports with limited depth and equipment, but add a transshipment, so transit time and the risk of missing the connection at the hub should be weighed when choosing a service.
