Open Top Container
An open top container has no steel roof; the top is closed with a tarpaulin supported by removable roof bows. Its ISO type code is 22U1 or 42U1. Cargo is loaded from above by crane, which suits tall machinery, sheet glass or stone blocks. A 20OT offers about 2,348 mm inner height and a typical payload of 28,130 kg. If cargo sticks out above the walls, the unit becomes out of gauge and needs carrier approval and surcharges.
