Flat Rack Container

In Indonesian: Kontainer Flat Rack Abbreviation: FR

A flat rack is a container with a strong floor and end walls but no side walls or roof. It is used for heavy or wide cargo such as construction machinery, transformers and large pipes. Typical payloads are about 31,260 kg for a 20FR and about 40,000 kg for a 40FR. Under ISO 6346, P1 means fixed ends and P3 folding ends, so check the code and CSC plate of the actual unit. Lashing and centre of gravity need careful planning.

  • Open Top Container

An open top container has no steel roof; the top is closed with a tarpaulin supported by removable roof bows.

  • Out of Gauge (OOG) Cargo

Out of gauge (OOG) cargo exceeds the dimensions of a container, usually travelling on an open top or flat rack: over-height, over-width or over-length.

  • Lashing

Lashing means securing cargo so it cannot shift under the accelerations of a sea voyage or a road journey.

  • Centre of Gravity (CoG)

The centre of gravity is the point where the whole weight of a load can be considered to act.
