About this calculator
Many small businesses new to exporting quote by adding a percentage to their domestic price, then find that trucking, documents, terminal handling and freight eat the profit. An export price should be built up in layers following Incoterms 2020, so every cost you carry is visible and buyers can compare offers fairly.
The first layer is EXW: production or purchase cost per unit times quantity, plus export packing and order overhead, plus your margin. The margin can be a markup (percentage of cost) or a margin (percentage of the selling price); a 20% markup is not the same as a 20% margin. The next layer is FCA: EXW plus trucking to the terminal or port and export clearance costs (declaration, customs broker, certificates). FOB adds origin terminal charges and loading on board. CFR adds ocean freight converted to rupiah, and CIF adds an insurance premium on at least 110% of the CIF value, using CIF = CFR ÷ (1 − rate × 110%).
This calculator shows every level at once, in total and per unit, in rupiah and the quote currency (e.g. USD). That lets you offer FOB and CIF in the same quotation, know exactly what you pay yourself under each term and keep your margin intact. For containers, use the FCA, CPT or CIP prices as the recommended equivalents.
Worked example
1,000 units, cost Rp50,000/unit, packing Rp2,000,000, markup 20%, trucking Rp3,000,000, documents Rp1,500,000, THC Rp2,000,000, freight USD 800, insurance 0.3% (110%), exchange rate Rp16,000:
- Base cost: 50,000,000 + 2,000,000 = Rp52,000,000; EXW = × 1.2 = Rp62,400,000
- FCA = 62,400,000 + 3,000,000 + 1,500,000 = Rp66,900,000
- FOB = + 2,000,000 = Rp68,900,000
- CFR = + 800 × 16,000 = Rp81,700,000
- CIF = 81,700,000 ÷ 0.9967 = Rp81,970,502.66 → Rp81,970.50 per unit = USD 5.1232
With a 20% margin (of the selling price) instead, EXW becomes 52,000,000 ÷ 0.8 = Rp65,000,000.
