ODOL Check: Truck Over Dimension & Overload

Pre-check whether your truck is overloaded against its JBB or exceeds the legal width, height and length limits.

Picking a truck fills in common catalogue figures. Replace them with the numbers in your KIR book.

About this calculator

ODOL (Over Dimension Over Load) is the Indonesian term for trucks that exceed the legal dimensions or carry more than their permitted weight. An overloaded truck is harder to control, its brakes work harder and it wears out roads and bridges faster. For shippers, forwarders and hauliers, ODOL also means the risk of a vehicle being stopped on the road or at a weighbridge, delays, and insurance claims being disputed.

This tool runs two pre-checks. Overload: the gross weight (tare plus cargo, or a weighbridge reading) is compared with the JBB (Jumlah Berat yang Diperbolehkan, the permitted gross weight) recorded in the KIR inspection book or card. Over dimension: overall width must not exceed 2,500 mm, height must not exceed 4,200 mm nor 1.7 × the vehicle width, and length is limited according to the vehicle configuration. These dimension limits follow Government Regulation (PP) 55/2012 on Vehicles and Transport Ministry Regulation PM 60/2019.

The result is a planning pre-check, not an official ruling. The default length limits in the tool (12,000 mm for a rigid truck, 18,000 mm for a combination with a trailer) should be matched to the actual configuration. Always use the JBB and dimensions from the documents of the vehicle you use, and refer to the regulations in force and the competent authorities for enforcement rules.

Worked example

A CDD box truck with a JBB of 8,250 kg and a tare of 3,250 kg is loaded with 7,000 kg of cargo. Overall dimensions are 6,600 × 2,100 × 3,000 mm.

  • Gross weight: 3,250 + 7,000 = 10,250 kg
  • Overload: 10,250 − 8,250 = 2,000 kg, or 2,000 ÷ 8,250 = 24.2% above the JBB
  • Maximum height: min(4,200; 1.7 × 2,100 = 3,570) = 3,570 mm ≥ 3,000 mm, dimensions are fine

The truck fails on overload: cut the cargo to 5,000 kg or split it over two vehicles.

How to use it

  1. Enter the JBB from the KIR

Type the permitted gross weight recorded in the vehicle KIR inspection book or card, not an estimate.

  2. Enter the gross weight

Use a weighbridge reading, or add the vehicle tare to the cargo weight.

  3. Enter the overall dimensions

Type the vehicle length, width and height including any protruding load, and pick the length limit for its configuration.

  4. Read the result

The tool shows any overload in kg and percent, the maximum permitted height and which dimensions exceed the limits.

Frequently asked questions

What does ODOL mean?
ODOL stands for Over Dimension Over Load: a vehicle that exceeds the legal dimension limits or weighs more than the JBB permitted for it.
What is JBB and where do I find it?
JBB (Jumlah Berat yang Diperbolehkan) is the maximum permitted weight of the vehicle with its load. It is recorded in the vehicle KIR inspection book or card.
What are the maximum truck width and height in Indonesia?
Overall width is limited to 2,500 mm. Height is limited to 4,200 mm and to no more than 1.7 × the vehicle width; a 2,100 mm wide truck may therefore be at most 3,570 mm high.
How do I work out a truck’s maximum payload?
Subtract the vehicle tare (including body or box) from the JBB. Example: a JBB of 8,250 kg and a tare of 3,250 kg leave a maximum payload of 5,000 kg.
Is the result of this tool official proof?
No. It is a planning pre-check. Official rules follow the regulations in force, the KIR documents and inspections by the competent authorities.
