About this calculator
Booking a truck that is too small means cargo left behind at the warehouse or a driver tempted to run overloaded; booking one that is too big means paying for a trip you did not need. Indonesia's road fleet comes in many sizes: pick-ups and panel vans for light parcels, CDE (engkel) and CDD trucks for city distribution, the CDD Long for long goods, Fuso, tronton and wing-box rigids for big loads, and 20'/40' container trailers and flatbeds for containers and heavy cargo.
This tool compares your load with a catalogue of deck sizes and payloads for each truck type. Deck volume is multiplied by an 85% load factor, because in practice there are always gaps between packages and room near the doors. A truck qualifies when the usable volume, the weight and the largest single piece (length × width, plus height for closed bodies) all fit. Results are sorted from the smallest deck, and when no single truck is enough the tool suggests the fewest units of one truck type.
The catalogue figures are common market defaults collected from body-builder brochures and haulier rate cards, not data for a specific vehicle. Deck sizes and permitted gross weight (JBB) differ between units, so always check them against the KIR inspection book or card and registration of the truck you will actually use, and confirm with the haulier before booking.
Worked example
A distributor needs to move 12 m³ of goods weighing 4,000 kg.
- CDE box: 3.1 × 1.7 × 1.7 = 8.96 m³ × 85% = 7.62 m³, less than 12 m³
- CDD open deck: 4.2 × 2.0 × 1.8 = 15.12 m³ × 85% = 12.85 m³ ≥ 12 m³, payload 5,000 kg ≥ 4,000 kg
- Result: the CDD open deck is the smallest truck that fits
- With one 4.5 m long piece: the CDD open deck (4.2 m) and CDD box (4.3 m) are too short, so the choice moves to the CDD Long (5.6 m deck)
A single long piece can decide the truck type, not just the total volume and weight.
How to use it
Enter the total load
Type the total volume (m³) and weight (kg). Use the CBM calculator first if you only have carton sizes.
Add the largest piece
Enter the length, width and height of the biggest package so trucks with a short deck are filtered out.
Compare the trucks
See the smallest truck that fits with its volume and weight utilisation, or a fleet suggestion when one is not enough.
