Empty Container Depot
An empty container depot is where shipping lines store, inspect, clean and repair empty boxes. Exporters collect containers there against a booking, and importers return them after stripping, which is when detention stops counting. The container's condition is recorded on an equipment interchange receipt (EIR) at each handover. Photograph the box at pick-up and return to avoid unfair damage or cleaning charges.
