FEU (Forty-foot Equivalent Unit)

In Indonesian: FEU (satuan setara kontainer 40 kaki) Abbreviation: FEU

An FEU is the unit equal to one 40-foot container, or 2 TEU. The term shows up in ocean freight quotes priced per 20' and per 40'. One FEU may be a 40GP (about 67.7 m³ inner volume, 26,730 kg payload) or a 40HC (76.4 m³, 26,540 kg payload). Because a 40-footer does not carry twice the payload of a 20-footer, heavy cargo is often shipped more efficiently in two 20-foot boxes.

  • TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit)

A TEU is the unit of capacity equal to one 20-foot container.

  • High Cube Container (40HC)

A high cube container is 9'6" (2,896 mm) high externally, one foot taller than a standard 8'6" box.

  • Dry Container (General Purpose)

A dry or general-purpose container is the standard closed steel box for general cargo that needs no temperature control, coded 22G1 (20GP) or 42G1 (40GP) under ISO 6346.

  • Payload

Payload is the maximum cargo weight a container may carry: maximum gross mass minus tare.
