Batam (Batu Ampar)

Batam, Kepulauan Riau

About the port

Batu Ampar Port is the main container port on Batam Island in the Riau Islands. Unlike most public ports in Indonesia, Batam's ports are not under Pelindo but under the Batam Indonesia Free Zone Authority (BP Batam), the authority for the free trade zone and free port.

From 1 December 2025 the Batu Ampar north pier has been run under a single-port-operator arrangement involving PT Batu Ampar Container Terminal (BACT), a joint venture of ICTSI (75%) and PT Interport Sarana Infrastruktur Indonesia (25%), together with operators already working there. The terminal has a 1,032-metre berth, a capacity of about 900,000 TEU a year and five quay cranes.

UN/LOCODE lists two relevant codes: IDBTM (Batam Island), commonly used by carriers, and IDBUR for Batu Ampar. Make sure the code on the booking matches the customs documents. Being so close to Singapore, much of Batam's cargo moves on short feeder services to that hub. Because Batam is a free zone, tax treatment and the documents for bringing goods in or out differ from the rest of the customs territory; talk to your customs broker before shipping.
