Tanjung Priok
Jakarta Utara, DKI Jakarta
About the port
Tanjung Priok in North Jakarta is Indonesia's busiest container gateway and the main hub for foreign trade serving Greater Jakarta, West Java and parts of Banten. Construction of the port began in 1877, and the area has since grown into a large complex with several container terminals, bulk berths and general cargo quays side by side.
The port is managed by PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 2 Tanjung Priok, while its container terminals are run by different companies: JICT and TPK Koja, which involve Hutchison Ports; NPCT1 at Kalibaru, a joint venture of IPC TPK with Mitsui, PSA and NYK; Terminal 3, operated by IPC TPK; and the MAL terminal. Because each terminal has its own closing times, gate system and storage tariffs, exporters should confirm the exact terminal at booking, not just the port name.
In UN/LOCODE, IDTPP is listed with a road-terminal function, while many carriers write Jakarta as IDJKT and the Kalibaru area has its own code, IDCTO (New Priok Port). Match the code on the booking confirmation, shipping instructions and customs documents to avoid data mismatches. For FCL cargo, plan stuffing around the VGM deadline and the truck queues at the gates, which are often heavy at peak hours.
