IDPLM Indonesia Seaport Airport

Palembang (Boom Baru)

Palembang, Sumatera Selatan

About the port

Boom Baru Port is in the Ilir Timur II district of Palembang, on the Musi River. Ships bound for Palembang follow a long river channel from the Bangka Strait, so vessel size and berthing times depend heavily on channel depth and tides.

The port falls under PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 2. Container services are run by IPC TPK, a Pelindo Terminal Petikemas subsidiary that also operates terminals at Tanjung Priok, Panjang, Pontianak, Teluk Bayur and Jambi. Non-container cargo in Palembang is handled by PTP Nonpetikemas of the Pelindo Multi Terminal group.

Palembang's UN/LOCODE is IDPLM. South Sumatra is known for commodities such as rubber and other plantation produce, much of which is exported in containers via transhipment at Tanjung Priok or hubs on the Strait of Malacca. When planning a shipment, note that feeder vessels entering the Musi River are generally small, so schedules and slot capacity can be tight in peak season. Confirm the cut-off and vessel arrival with the carrier before the container leaves the warehouse to avoid extra storage charges.
