Makassar (Soekarno-Hatta & Makassar New Port)
Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan
About the port
Makassar is the largest port in eastern Indonesia and a distribution hub for Sulawesi, Maluku, Nusa Tenggara and Papua. Much of the cargo from Java is discharged here and redistributed to smaller ports, while South Sulawesi's produce leaves through the same terminals.
The port is managed by PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 4. Container services are run by TPK New Makassar, a branch of Pelindo Terminal Petikemas, which operates two sites: Terminal 1 in the Soekarno-Hatta port area (TPM) and Terminal 2 at Makassar New Port (MNP). MNP was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on 22 February 2024 with a basin depth of −16 metres and a capacity of 2.5 million TEU a year, and Pelindo aims to complete the move of TPM services to MNP by 2027. Non-container cargo is handled by the Pelindo Multi Terminal branch.
The current UN/LOCODE is IDMAK; the older code IDUPG (Ujung Pandang) is still listed by UNECE and sometimes appears in legacy systems. Because two container terminals operate side by side during the transition, confirm the terminal address on the booking and on the truck delivery order before the container moves.
