Dumai

Dumai, Riau

About the port

Dumai Port is in the city of Dumai, Riau, on Sumatra's east coast facing the Rupat Strait and the Strait of Malacca. Sitting right on one of the world's busiest shipping lanes makes Dumai an important port for bulk commodities from mainland Riau.

The port falls under PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 1 and is operated by the Pelindo Multi Terminal branch in Dumai. Its main business is bulk cargo, especially liquid bulk such as crude palm oil (CPO) and derivatives from Riau's plantations, plus dry bulk and general cargo. The Dumai area also has industry-owned special terminals that operate separately from the public port.

Dumai's UN/LOCODE is IDDUM. Palm-product exporters can ship in bulk on tankers or in packaged form, for example flexibags in 20-foot containers or ISO tanks; each has its own loading rules, weight limits and documents. Make sure net and gross weights are calculated for the packaging type, and check the destination country's requirements for sustainability certificates and quarantine. For containers, much of Riau's cargo moves through Belawan or other ports on the Strait of Malacca.
