IDTBR Indonesia Seaport

Teluk Bayur (Padang)

Padang, Sumatera Barat

About the port

Teluk Bayur Port in Padang is West Sumatra's main port and one of the large ports on Sumatra's west coast facing the Indian Ocean. It is the gateway for goods moving to and from Padang and the surrounding regencies, including the highlands of inland West Sumatra.

The port falls under PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 2. Containers are handled by IPC TPK, a Pelindo Terminal Petikemas subsidiary, while bulk and general cargo is served by PTP Nonpetikemas of the Pelindo Multi Terminal group. Typical commodities through the port include cement and plantation produce.

Teluk Bayur's UN/LOCODE is IDTBR (written Telukbayur in the UNECE list), while the city of Padang has its own code, IDPDG. Make sure the booking code points to the port rather than the city if the carrier's system distinguishes them. Container routes from Teluk Bayur are mostly domestic with transhipment at Tanjung Priok, so transit times to international destinations must allow for two rounds of handling. West Sumatra is also prone to earthquakes and extreme weather, so keep a fallback plan for time-critical shipments.
