Pontianak (Dwikora & Kijing)
Pontianak, Kalimantan Barat
About the port
Pontianak Port serves West Kalimantan from two locations. Dwikora port lies on the Kapuas River inside the city of Pontianak, so vessels navigate a river channel before berthing. To overcome the channel's limits, Terminal Kijing was built on the coast of Mempawah Regency, about 75 kilometres (straight line) north-west of the city.
The port falls under PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 2. Container services in Pontianak are run by IPC TPK, a Pelindo Terminal Petikemas subsidiary, while non-container cargo at Pontianak and Kijing is handled by PTP Nonpetikemas. Terminal Kijing was built from 2016, completed in May 2022 at a cost of about Rp2.9 trillion, and inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on 9 August 2022.
Pontianak's UN/LOCODE is IDPNK. Typical outbound cargo includes plantation produce and processed wood products, while inbound flows are dominated by consumer goods and building materials from Java. When shipping to or from Pontianak, ask the carrier whether the vessel calls at Dwikora or Kijing, because the road distance and trucking cost to your warehouse can differ a lot. Also plan for waiting time caused by tides in the Kapuas River channel.
